Abstract

The prologue, written by Prof. Dr. Carmen Domínguez Hidalgo, president of the Board of Directors of the Latin American Consortium for Religious Freedom, presents the purpose of the report of the XXIII Colloquium of the Latin American Consortium for Religious Freedom, which focuses on a comparative analysis of the relationship between family and religious freedom. It highlights the relevance of both rights to personal and social life, as well as the tensions that have arisen in different countries due to debates on marriage, adoption, education, and the participation of religious actors in the public sphere. It also reviews cases from Europe, the United States, and Latin America that show how notions of family have evolved and the challenges of harmonizing them with religious freedom. Finally, it underscores the importance of these encounters for understanding recent changes and seeking solutions that promote coexistence in diverse societies.
