Artificial Intelligence and Legal Education in Mexico: What Role Does Law Play in the Digital Transformation?

Abstract

This chapter examines the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on legal education in Mexico, highlighting the challenges and opportunities arising from digital transformation. The objective is to assess how AI is reshaping legal education and the role of the legal framework in facilitating or limiting this transition. The research employs a qualitative methodology based on documentary analysis and a comparative study of international experiences to identify best practices. The findings indicate that AI enhances access to legal information, automates complex tasks, and facilitates personalized learning, thereby improving the training of future lawyers. The chapter also explores the regulatory and ethical challenges associated with AI implementation, emphasizing the need for clear regulations to ensure responsible and equitable use. It concludes with recommendations for updating law school curricula to integrate digital competencies and AI knowledge, equipping future legal professionals to navigate the challenges of the digital era.

Carlos Eduardo Coca Silva, Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla

El Mtro. Carlos Eduardo Coca Silva es Maestro en Derecho por la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) y cuenta con diplomados en Juicio de Amparo y Derechos Humanos otorgados por la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación (SCJN) y la Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos (CNDH), además de una certificación por la Comisión de Derechos Humanos del Estado de Puebla (CDHP). Es abogado postulante y litigante con experiencia en Derecho Civil, Mercantil, Familiar y de Amparo, y socio director del Corporativo Jurídico Coca Silva y Asociados, donde ha liderado estrategias de defensa y consultoría. Se desempeñó como Director del Área Jurídica en el Registro Público de la Propiedad y del Comercio del Estado de Puebla. En el ámbito académico, es profesor adscrito al Complejo Regional Mixteca de la BUAP, donde imparte materias jurídicas y educativas. Ha publicado capítulos de libros en editoriales como Tirant Lo Blanch, abordando temas de derechos humanos e inteligencia artificial aplicada al derecho.
